This bag is for lightweight minimalist air or long distance bus travel to protect against external scratches. Extra padding can be added if desired. Since the folding mechanisms clip and contain all the frame parts securely spaced from each other, the usual bubble wrap around frame parts to prevent them damaging each other is not required. The same is true when folded into a standard suitcase, requiring mostly only a few minor "socks" over dropouts etc.

At Evolvetrikes believe we have one of the most thoroughly pre-tested trike designs of any trike. As well as extensive on-road testing we have subjected our frames and folding mechanisms to objective, repeatable tests we have adapted from the more holistic frame fatigue tests in EU standards for road, mountain and city and trekking bikes (14781, 14766 and 14764). Although these standards do not apply to recumbents we think some of the tests are very translatable to representative real-world frame durability tests for recumbents.

In the Road bump frame fatigue test we subjected this early (gen4) prototype frame to over 100,000 cycles of emulated road bumps (+ landings) using a simulated 122kg (269lb) rider weight distributed across the seat, pedals, handlebars. The suspension on this frame was disabled and at the high tire pressures and speed we test the wheels are airborne at each bump, also creating more than 100,000 landings.

This test tested the frame, hinge, seat mounts, handlebar mounts, and the complete fiberglass seat with no failures. Although this test is harsh, and the strength of the early gen4 cross-members was quite adequate, we have since increased their size in the gen5 design, reducing handlebar movement.

This slow early test rig verified the frame, hinges, seat mounts, and the resultant chain tension verified the idler pulley mount and frame tail side flex, all known points of failure in trikes.

Tested to 110000 cycles, 130kgf (287lb) per pedal with no failures.

Putting an Evolve trike into an airline standard suitcase.  L+W+H=158cm (62in)

Because the frame is essentialy in one piece, a few plastic "socks" provide adequate protection for most parts.

This prototype trike can be suitcased in under 5min with only 5, 6mm Allen keys & 13mm spanner. Quick-detach pedals & other quick releases can reduce that time.

This suitcase's internal handle mechanism has been removed & corrugated plastic fitted in lid & base for added protection.

To meet a weight limit of 23kg (50lb) with this prototype and suitcase, the pannier trunk bag & contents need to be carry-on luggage. Production models may remove this need.

Shows travel from Australia to Germany with 16in and 20in trikes using Evolve folding technology. The 16in trike fits completely in a single airline standard suitcase, 158cm (62in) L+H+W. We travelled via Frankfurt airport and onto Heidelberg on the ICE train. Video shows travel on local trains and having fun riding around Heidelberg including to, and down from, Schloss Castle.
